Our Opportunity Class
Learn how to enrol at our school. Our school has a non-selective stream and an opportunity class. Opportunity classes are for high potential and gifted students in Year 5 and 6. Parents apply when students are at the end Year 3 or the beginning of Year 4 for placement in Year 5. It is a 2-year program (Year 5 to 6). Parents cannot apply for Year 6 placement only.
The Illaroo Road Public School Opportunity Class (OC) is a specialised program for highly capable students in Years 5 and 6, centred on the acquisition and application of knowledge. Our OC is built upon three key pillars: Rigour, Enrichment, and Performance, which together create a comprehensive and challenging learning environment tailored to meet the needs of gifted learners.
Rigour: Our program challenges students with in-depth, complex, and advanced content across English, Mathematics, Science, and beyond. This academic rigour cultivates high-level thinking skills, encouraging students to analyse, evaluate, and solve problems with precision and depth.
Enrichment: Beyond traditional classroom learning, the OC offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities that stimulate creativity, innovation, and intellectual curiosity. Students engage in STEM activities, creative arts, technology projects, and interdisciplinary challenges that expand their knowledge and skills.
Performance: We believe in empowering students to confidently demonstrate their learning through presentations, competitions, exhibitions, and collaborative projects. Performance opportunities develop communication, leadership, and resilience, helping students build confidence and a strong academic identity.
At Illaroo Road Public School, our dedicated teachers support each student’s growth in a nurturing yet challenging environment. By focusing on the acquisition and practical application of knowledge through Rigour, Enrichment, and Performance, our OC prepares students for future academic success and lifelong learning, equipping them with the skills and mindset to thrive both inside and beyond the classroom.
